On January 31, 2011, Assistant Deputy Director Su Harley was placed in a life saving situation. Chief Harley was at Stony Brook Hospital with her fiancé for some routine testing. While in the Admitting Office completing paperwork, she heard a commotion in
the waiting area. She and the admitting nurse went to investigate and found Su’s fiancé unconscious and in cardiac arrest. Without hesitation, Chief Su Harley started CPR, while the nurse notified hospital staff of the situation. Within minutes staff arrived with a
defibrillator and other equipment and successfully revived Su’s fiancé. Thankfully, he is doing fine today as a result of her action. For her life saving effort, Chief Su Harley was awarded the Executive Director’s Award at this year’s Medal of Valor Ceremony.
