The
Vocational Education and Extension Board has issued the
Medal of Valor to fifteen firefighters and one police
officer who endangered their lives during courageous
rescues. Two instructors at the Fire Academy were
named "Instructors of the Year." The Medal of
Valor recognizes the expertise and extraordinary bravery
of our firefighters. These medals honor them for doing
what firefighters do naturally. Their training,
experience and bravery all play a role in what sometimes
comes down to a life or death situation.

Firefighter I Graduation 2008
Firefighters who
completed the Firefighter I Program from January 2007
through September 2008 attended the First Annual
Graduation Ceremony held at the Fire Academy on
Saturday, October 18, 2008. The graduates received
Suffolk County Fire Academy Certificates in addition to
newly designed FF1 patches and a commemorative
sweatshirt. Over 350 people attended the event.
