The Suffolk County Fire Academy is now offering an online hazmat refresher course. This course provides training to review and refresh the competencies covered in OSHA 1910.120 for First Responder Awareness and Operations Level Responders. Firefighters whose CPR certification is expiring are eligible to recertify by taking Class 1 of any CPR course held at the Suffolk County Fire Academy. Refer to the monthly schedule for upcoming classes. Call the Academy at 631-924-6822 to register. Walk-ins are not permitted.
Once again the Vocational Education and Extension Board will be considering nominees for its "Medal of Valor Awards” for meritorious actions performed 1/1/14 through 12/31/14. Every department has the opportunity to support its firefighters by forwarding their nominees who are worthy of consideration for these awards.
The schedules for the 2015 Firefighter II Courses are now available at the Open Enrollment Section of the website. Registrations for the Firefighter II Hybrid Courses for 2015 will begin approximately 60 days prior to the date of the first class.

EMS Personnel can obtain their HazMat Awareness Certification by taking the online course: IS-5.A: An Introduction to Hazardous Materials. This course is available at the FEMA website at:
