The schedules for the 2014 Firefighter I Courses are now available at the Open Enrollment Section of the website. We are now accepting registrations for the 2014 Firefighter I Hybrid Courses that will be held at the Fire Academy and the Huntington Manor Fire Department in January. We are also accepting registrations for the 2014 Firefighter I Conventional Classroom Course that will be held at the Fire Academy. Registration for all other Firefighter I Courses in 2014 will begin on January 1, 2014.
The schedule for the "existing" Firefighter I course for students who started their Firefighter I training in 2012 or 2013 is available at the "Firefighter I Course Schedule" section. Pre-registration is NOT required for this course.
The Medal of Valor Ceremony will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Southampton High School located at 141 Narrow Lane in Southampton. Light refreshments will be served immediately following the ceremony at Southampton Fire Department Headquarters, 470 Hampton Road, Southampton.
In the near future, the Suffolk County Fire Academy will be changing the manual used for the Firefighter I and Firefighter II courses. Cengage-Delmar, the publisher of the manual we are currently using, is no longer updating their publication. As a result, the new manual that will be used is IFSTA's Essentials of Firefighting, Sixth Edition. During the transition period, both the Delmar and IFSTA manuals will be suitable for use in these courses.
